Manimahesh Kailash
The Jewel of the Chamba Himalayas.
Overview
What to Expect
Manimahesh Kailash is the presiding peak of the Chamba district — a 5,653m pyramid that towers above the sacred Manimahesh Lake at 4,080m. The trek to the lake is one of the most important pilgrimages in Himachal Pradesh, undertaken by hundreds of thousands during the annual Manimahesh Yatra. Outside the yatra season, the route is quiet, the lake pristine, and the mountain overwhelming.
Trek Highlights
- ★Manimahesh Lake at 4,080m — one of the holiest lakes in Hinduism
- ★The pyramid peak of Manimahesh Kailash (5,653m) rising directly above the lake

Day by Day
The Itinerary
Day 1
Chamba → Hadsar → Dhancho
Drive to Hadsar (2,900m) and begin the trek along the Manimahesh Nala. The trail climbs through forest and open meadow to Dhancho (3,400m), passing a dramatic waterfall.
Day 2
Dhancho → Manimahesh Lake
The trail opens up above the treeline into wide alpine meadows. The final approach to the lake is across a boulder field. The lake appears suddenly — and the peak above it is staggering. Camp at the lake shore.
Day 3
Exploration and Rest at the Lake
A full day at Manimahesh Lake. Explore the lake shore, attempt the ridge above for closer views of the peak, or simply sit with the mountain. The light changes dramatically through the day.
Day 4
Manimahesh Lake → Hadsar → Chamba
Retrace the route to Hadsar and drive back to Chamba. The descent takes 6–7 hours.
