Triund
The Gateway to the Dhauladhar.
Overview
What to Expect
Triund is the most accessible high-altitude ridge in the Dhauladhar range — a two-day trek from the streets of McLeod Ganj to a sweeping campsite with a front-row view of the snow-capped peaks. It's the perfect first Himalayan overnight, and it never gets old.
Trek Highlights
- ★Unobstructed 270° panorama of the Dhauladhar range from the ridge
- ★Camping under stars at 2,828m with the peaks lit by moonlight
- ★Passes through dense oak and rhododendron forest on the ascent
- ★Short enough for a weekend, rewarding enough to remember for years
Day by Day
The Itinerary
Day 1
McLeod Ganj → Triund Ridge
The trail begins at Galu Devi Temple (1,460m) and climbs steadily through forest and open meadow. The final stretch — the famous '22 curves' — is steep but short. Arrive at the ridge by afternoon, set up camp, and watch the sunset turn the Dhauladhar gold.
Day 2
Triund Ridge → McLeod Ganj
Wake before sunrise for the best light on the peaks. After breakfast, descend the same trail back to McLeod Ganj. The descent takes 3–4 hours and feels entirely different from the climb — the valley opens up below you the whole way down.

Indrahar Pass is the definitive Dhauladhar crossing — a five-day traverse that takes you from the subtropical forests of Dharamshala to the cold, open plateau of Chamba. The pass itself sits at 4,342m and offers one of the most dramatic ridge-top views in Himachal Pradesh.
Trek Highlights

- ★Night at Lahesh Cave — a natural rock shelter at 3,500m
- ★The full Dhauladhar traverse from Kangra to Chamba
- ★Passes through Triund, Laka Got, and Chata Parao campsites
Day by Day
The Itinerary
Day 1
McLeod Ganj → Triund
Ascend from Galu Devi Temple through forest and the 22 curves to the Triund ridge. Camp at 2,828m with the Dhauladhar wall rising directly above.
Day 2
Triund → Lahesh Cave
Leave the treeline behind and climb through boulder fields and snowfields to Lahesh Cave — a natural rock overhang that has sheltered trekkers for centuries. The terrain becomes alpine and the air noticeably thinner.
Day 3
Lahesh Cave → Indrahar Pass → Chata Parao
The crux day. An early start is essential — the pass is best crossed before noon when afternoon clouds can roll in. The summit at 4,342m delivers a 360° panorama. Descend steeply to Chata Parao on the Chamba side.
Day 4
Chata Parao → Kuarsi
Descend through the Ravi river valley, crossing streams and passing through shepherd settlements. The landscape transitions from alpine to forested as you lose altitude.
Day 5
Kuarsi → Chamba
Final descent through villages and terraced fields to the historic town of Chamba on the banks of the Ravi. Trek ends here.

Kareri Lake
The Hidden Alpine Lake of the Dhauladhar.
Overview
What to Expect
Kareri Lake sits in a glacial bowl at the base of the Dhauladhar, fed by snowmelt and ringed by peaks that rise sharply above it. The approach through the Nyund Nala gorge is one of the most scenic valley walks in Himachal — and the lake itself, when you finally reach it, is worth every step.
Trek Highlights
- ★A pristine glacial lake with direct views of the Dhauladhar wall
- ★The Nyund Nala gorge — a dramatic river canyon on the approach
- ★Camping at the lake shore at 2,934m
- ★Relatively uncrowded even in peak season
Day by Day
The Itinerary
Day 1
Dharamshala → Kareri Village → Reoti Camp
Drive to Kareri village (1,400m) and begin the trek along the Nyund Nala. The trail follows the river through a narrow gorge with impressive rock walls. Camp at Reoti (1,900m).
Day 2
Reoti Camp → Kareri Lake
The trail climbs steadily out of the gorge into open alpine terrain. The lake appears suddenly as you crest the final ridge — a wide, still expanse of blue-green water backed by snow peaks. Camp at the lake shore.
Day 3
Rest and Exploration Day
A full day at the lake. Explore the surrounding ridges, attempt a higher viewpoint above the lake, or simply sit by the water. Optional: push towards the base of the Dhauladhar for closer views of the glaciers.

Kinnar Kailash is one of the holiest peaks in Hinduism — a 79-foot natural rock pillar at 4,800m that is believed to be the winter abode of Lord Shiva. The parikrama (circumambulation) of the peak is both a pilgrimage and one of the most technically demanding treks in Himachal Pradesh, crossing high passes and glacial terrain in the remote Kinnaur district.
Trek Highlights
- ★The 79-foot Shivalinga rock formation at 4,800m — a sacred natural monument
- ★The full parikrama circuit through some of the most remote terrain in Kinnaur
- ★Views of the Kinnaur Kailash range and the Sutlej valley far below
- ★Crossing the Charang La pass at 5,200m on the extended route
Day by Day
The Itinerary

Drive to Tangling village and begin the ascent through apple orchards and terraced fields. Camp at Charurang (3,400m).

Day 3
Ganesh Park → Kinnar Kailash Base → Parvati Kund
The most sacred day of the trek. Approach the base of the Shivalinga at 4,800m, circumambulate the peak, and descend to Parvati Kund — a glacial lake of deep religious significance.

Descend through the Tidong valley, crossing streams and passing through remote shepherd camps. Camp at Lamber (3,000m).

The Hardest Pilgrimage in Himachal.
Overview
What to Expect
Shrikhand Kailash is the highest trekking peak in Himachal Pradesh accessible without technical climbing — a 5,155m natural Shivalinga that draws both pilgrims and mountaineers. The route is relentlessly steep, the altitude unforgiving, and the final push to the summit one of the most demanding days in Himalayan trekking. It is also one of the most transcendent.
Trek Highlights
- ★The 72-foot natural Shivalinga at 5,155m — highest in Himachal
- ★The Bhim Dwar rock arch at 4,800m — a natural gateway to the summit
- ★Crossing the Kali Ghati snowfield — the crux of the route
- ★Views of the Kullu valley and the Pir Panjal from the summit
Day by Day
The Itinerary
Day 1
Jaon → Thachru
The trek begins at Jaon village (2,400m) and climbs steeply through forest to the first campsite at Thachru (3,200m). The trail is well-marked but relentlessly uphill.
Day 2
Thachru → Kali Ghati
Cross the treeline and enter high alpine terrain. The Kali Ghati snowfield begins here — crampons may be required. Camp at the base of the snowfield (4,100m).
Day 3
Kali Ghati → Bhim Dwar
Cross the Kali Ghati snowfield — the most technically demanding section of the route. Reach Bhim Dwar (4,800m), the natural rock arch that marks the final approach to the summit. Camp here.
Day 4
Bhim Dwar → Shrikhand Kailash Summit → Bhim Dwar
Summit day. An early start (3am) is essential. The final 355m to the Shivalinga is a scramble over loose rock and snow. The summit at 5,155m is overwhelming — return to Bhim Dwar camp.
Day 5
Bhim Dwar → Thachru
Long descent back through Kali Ghati to Thachru. The legs feel it by now.

Outside the yatra season, the route is quiet, the lake pristine, and the mountain overwhelming.
